Video & music players are a huge problem, when it comes to spyware, malware, viruses, browser toolbars.
Most will have huge security risks, install tons of junk-ware you DO NOT NEED.

Some easy ways to avoid being duped:

If ANY site tells you, "You need to download and install xxxx video player to watch this video"
NEVER EVER DOWNLOAD OR INSTALL THOSE PLAYERS!

This video will only plays on, realplayer, windows media, quick(spy)time, install the DVD player on the DVD to watch this DVD.
AGAIN NOT TRUE!

Those two things cause 99% of the problems I see on peoples computers.

To install VLC in Linux Ubuntu 16.04.
Use either the Software Center just search "VLC" or install it using a terminal window.
Open a Terminal Window and type in or copy and paste these commands.
Type in or copy and paste: sudo apt-get update (Hit the enter key, enter the admin password.)
Type in or copy and paste: sudo apt-get install vlc browser-plugin-vlc (Hit the enter key)
Type in or copy and paste: sudo apt-get update (Hit the enter key)
