    Windows 8 - Help

    Been running this 100%
The look is different, but it is MUCH FASTER than windows 7 :)
    Any questions post them here.
Here are a few getting started tweaks :)

Defrag your drives in Windows 8
Hit the windows key +R In the RUN box type in dfrgui.exe, click enter.
If you have SSD drives be sure to turn those drives OFF. Defragging SSD (Solid State Drives) will shorten the life of those drives. SSD drives never need to be defragged :)

To get into Safe Mode in Windows 8:
Tap or click the power icon Power icon from the sign-in screen, hold Shift, and
    then tap or click Restart

Get the classic start button back without doing a registry hack :)
    Classic Shell Menu version 4.2.1

You can use this to get your start menu back in Windows 8, 8.1 or customize your start menu in Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 10.
Click the link below to download Classic Shell Menu version 4.2.1 from beast-usa.com

Windows 8 x32 & x64 Add your start button back
Down sides no drag & drop, very few other options. Can be tweaked by showing hidden files. C:\Program Data\Start Menu but still very hard to keep custom changes. This one comes bundled with other software, just hit decline on every screen and uncheck the boxes for anything you don't want.

Windows 8 get your gadgets back.
Add Gadgets back to your desktop. Windows no longer has a right click on your desktop for gadgets. But you have a few options:
    #1
Open control panel click Desktop Gadgets, add the gadgets back, all windows 7 gadgets will work in windows 8.
    #2
Windows 8 8 Gadgets ver 5, add any gadgets you have, on or
off the sidebar, drag the gadgets anywhere on any screen you want.
    Works 32 or 64bit Windows.
You can install this program, turn off the side bar and still add gadgets anywhere on any screen.
    Download from here:

    Take Ownership in Windows 8
Download the .reg file, right click run as admin.
Used if windows tells you, you don't have permission to access this file or folder.
    Download from here:

This command works with any application open including the Start Metro screen of Windows 8. You don’t need to go to the desktop first. I hope you enjoy these quick admin tools at your fingertips. If you are looking for a keyboard shortcut for the quick admin tools menu, the Windows 8 shortcut for opening quick admin tools is

Launch the regedit with WIN+R - type regedit hit enter and go to the following location:

Open the "Permission..." on the ShellFolder and open the "Advanced" settings

Change the Owner to "Administrators" or your username

Now you can set "Full Control" to the Administrators and change the values. Now double-click on Attributes DWORD and change the value to b090010d and now the ANNOYING libraries are gone :)
