But after the first install I was very disappointed to see the "Unity" garbage is still there! Sure having pictures to click on and no menu to read is great for those of us that can't read, are to dumb to find anything in a menu, really just to dumb to have a computer!Just like 14 and 16 you can't remove the worthless side bar unless you install another Distro. So I UPGRADED it to Xubuntu again added my menu's back NO MORE SIDE BAR! But it's all new so a few of the old features I really liked no longer work, you need to check privacy and turn off all the geo-location, tracking, data reporting. :( So it's a lot like Windows 10 of course $199 cheaper! And Ubuntu will still let you turn off all the new not needed annoying things. Good luck trying to do that in Windows 10 not that you can't because you can kill 90% of the spyware but after a couple updates and re-boots it's all back!... less

Install Windows 8, 8.junk or 10 on the front of the drive (IN THE FREE SPACE) it will make both of it's partitions (or three for Windows 10). 100 to 200meg system partition & the windows operating system.If you only have one hard drive you can use separate partitions. In that case Windows will need to be use the front of the drive.So it would look something like this Linux can read & write Windows fat or NTFS files, Windows CAN NOT read Linux folders or files. I have discovered in doing so that it makes for a tighter release as can be seen in the Lite version a CD in size and fairly loaded considering the size. The release boots in under 6 secs on my PC. Ultimate Edition 3.6 (not the lite version) has a comprehensive set of software packages. Mate 1.6.0 is the default desktop environment (DE). Most common Linux to switch from Windows or Mac to Linux, would be Ubuntu. Ubuntu When you download Ubuntu, there will be different versions. 32bit, 64bit, newest version supported for 18 months, new version ( missing some bells & whistles) supported for 5 years. Not to worry it will say which version does what. You can download Ubuntu, run it off the CD (LIVE CD), to test and see if you like it. Then it will have an option to install it, on the Live CD Desktop. You will also be given the choice to install it next to windows. Then on start up you have a choice of which to use.
