What to Watch on Netflix in May 2024

The streamer bets big on live broadcasts and comedy this month. Here's the best new stuff.

The world of streaming media is changing in numerous ways, and Netflix is no exception. As it tries to capture subscribers and increase watch time, it's venturing into live broadcasting, with shows that aren't available after they air like an old-fashioned TV station.

This month sees the "Netflix Is A Joke" comedy festival, as well as live shows from Katt Williams, John Mulaney, and a live roast of Tom Brady. That's not all, though, as there are new shows, movies, anime, and more. Here's our guide to the hottest upcoming content on the streaming service in May.

John Mulaney Presents: Everybody's In L.A. (May 3)

The streamer's biggest step into live broadcasting comes with John Mulaney Presents: Everybody's In L.A, where the comedian takes to the streets of the City of Angels for an hour every day at 7 p.m. Pacific Time. A bunch of funny people are slated to appear, and Los Angeles is just a funny town by nature, so we'll see if Netflix can make this the cultural event it so desperately want it to be.

The Final: Attack On Wembley (May 8)

Underestimating the passion of English soccer fans is a huge mistake, as new documentary The Final: Attack On Wembley aptly demonstrates. When the English national team made it to the Euro World Cup final for the first time since 1966, thousands of punters without tickets swarmed the stadium, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

Illusions for Sale: The Rise and Fall of Generación Zoe (May 23)

Scam documentaries are one of the most fun ways to kill a few hours, and we're captivated by the backstory of Illusions for Sale: The Rise and Fall of Generación Zoe. This one has it all: valueless cryptocurrency, pyramid scheme recruitment, quasi-religious life coaching, sketchy founders fleeing the country, and more. We'd never heard of this story but it seems super juicy.

Atlas (May 24)

Jennifer Lopez stars as a computer scientist who has to track down a robot soldier who has determined that the only way to truly win a war is to eradicate all of humanity. To stop it, she needs to team up with an AI-powered battle suit that she has trouble trusting. Atlas doesn't look like it will reinvent the wheel, but we're expecting a ton of "evil / misunderstood AI" movies to come down the pipeline in the next few years so we might as well start watching it now.
