Help Don a Vietnam veteran.

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Gary. Don has been my close friend since I was about twenty-six, over thirty-five years ago. Don's always been a great friend... a great friend to everyone. He always helps everyone he can and is the guy who'll stop on the side of the road to rescue a dog.

He's also a Vietnam veteran. In May 1968, he spent fifteen months in Danang, almost killed by rocket fire missing him by ten feet as he ran into the bunker. He was an SK4, getting supplies into the DMZ then he was transferred to tracking down lost items for medivac soldiers.

About twenty-two years ago, he sold his home and moved back in with his mom to take care of her due to her medical problems. Then about fifteen years ago, the diagnosis was dementia, and she gradually got sicker and sicker until her death in 2018.

And while he was there, he became diabetic and injured his leg. It never healed correctly. So, while taking care of his sick mother with dementia, making sure a caretaker was constantly on guard to keep her from wandering out a door or her setting the house on fire in the kitchen, he had to deal with his own medical problems and loss of mobility.

Part of her last will and testament was that he could remain in the house as long as he maintained the house (paint, gardening, plumbing, electrical, etc.,) Last week, the main sewage pipe broke, so he had a new pipe put from the house to the street which cost him $5,500, and as he's on a limited income (because of medical bills above and beyond what VA and SS and retirement will cover) he can't afford to do anymore repairs at this time.

A few days ago, his brother sent him a letter from an attorney telling him that if he doesn't get the rest of the repairs done around the house, he's going to sell the house to an investor friend, and throw Don out in seven days with the Law Enforcement at his door.

This is the brother who never served in the Armed Forces, never took care of their mother, is NOT concerned with his brother's medical problems, and his only concern is getting cash out of the house.

We're trying to raise enough money for this Vietnam vet who served his country, took care of his family, and is now being threatened with homelessness and he just wants to stay in the house long enough for his leg to heal so he can walk again.

Every little bit will help and I know Don (and I) will truly appreciate it. I don't want to see my friend on the street and I don't want to see him lose the home he's been in for the last twenty-two years with the memories of his family and his mother.

Thank you for reading this and thank you for helping.
