Installing Printers - Local and Network for Windows

These instructions should work for Windows XP through Windows 10

    1. First click start the start button, then click Devices and Printers Windows 8 - 8.1 no start button WinKey + I
Then click Control Panel, then Devices and Printers

    2. Then click Add a printer

    3. Adding a Local Printer click the top button. The computer will search for new devices, then ask you would you like to install HP 2550 (Printer Name)? And may ask for drivers if the system doesn't have them or can't connect to windows updates to get drivers.
"THIS IS ONLY IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE ORIGINAL SOFTWARE INSTALL CD"
If you have the original install CD, NEVER PLUG USB PRINTERS IN UNTIL THEY TELL YOU!
Then just follow the on screen instructions.

    4. Adding a Network or Network Shared Printer.
Click the Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer button Then click Next.

Then the search window will pop up.

    5. When your computer is through searching you should see all Network and Network Shared printers. Downside to shared printers the computer that is sharing needs to be on for you to print. Network Printers that are connected directly to the network can print as long as the printer is turned on. You may see a whole list of printers make sure to SELECT
(Click) the right one. "Computer Name (Front Desk) - Printer Name (Dell w5300)"
    Then click Next.

    This is a Shared Printer.

    6. The Connecting to PRINTER NAME should pop up. If not you will get a CANNOT CONNECT WINDOW.

    7. Once it's finished you should see confirmation window. "Click Next"

    8. I recommend printing a test page just to make sure. It prints all is good - click Finish!

    9. Adding a Network Printer by IP address or if it doesn't show up in the search, isn't listed.
Click "The printer that I want isn't listed" button. Then the Next button.

    10. Add a printer shared by computer that didn't show up in the search. Type in the sharing computers name then the printer name \\dads-pc\hp 4000. Then click the Next button, it may ask for drivers or to use drivers already installed.

    11. Adding a Networked Printer, that's on a wired or wireless network. NOT ATTACHED to another computer. Select "Add a printer using a TCP/IP address (192.1.1.100) or hostname (\\hp 4000)" Then click the Next button.

    12. Type in the IP address or hostname in the top box the bottom box will fill in automatically. Make sure the "Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use" is checked. Then click Next.

Always print a test page, always click FINISH

    Any questions please ask!
